Alberta’s solicitor general argued today that stun guns are valuable police tools that save lives.

His comments come in the wake of the death Trevor Grimolfson, the 38-year-old owner of Big Daddy’s tattoo shop who died Wednesday after police jolted him in an attempt to end his violent rampage.

“I believe the Taser is a tool that’s been used very effectively and, in a lot of cases, have prevented death,” Fred Lindsay said. “I haven’t seen a lot of evidence yet come forward that confirms at the end of the investigation that (a death) was caused by … the Taser.” Full Story

This is the second time I’ve heard of someone dying because of a taser. Your telling me that mace is not effective? There has to be a better alternative than these tasers, or these people who break norms (not laws) will be wiped off the face of the planet.

With the team desperate for a win, Mike Richards showed why he is the Philadelphia Flyers’ captain.

Richards had a career-high four assists and the Flyers became the last NHL team to break into the victory column this season with a 6-3 decision over the New Jersey Devils on Friday night.

”He was our leader tonight. It was a great effort from our captain,” Flyers coach John Stevens said after Philadelphia (1-3-3) ended a six-game victory drought in a city where it usually struggles.

Not only did the Flyers win, they did it just hours after learning star centre Daniel Briere would be sidelined up to a month with a torn abdominal muscle that will have to be surgically repaired.

”It was a good night, first win of the year and we played well,” said Richards, whose previous high was three assists. ”I know I said this a lot lately, we deserved to win tonight. We played a good game right from the get-go and we finished the game.” Full Story

Its about time.

After a career night against the Panthers last night, Mikko Koivu is on pace for 37 goals, 219 assists, and 246 points.

If he manages 219 assists, I guess that means we will have a first time President’s trophy winner this year.

Is is just me or could the author have chosen a better headline?

I love reading hockey blogs, and my favorite is one that most people would probably have in their top ten, but would not rank it as high as James Mirtle or Off Wing Opinion, but I think Puck Updateis the most entertaining hockey blog out their purely based on author Steven Ovadia’s brilliant titles.

Recent line of brilliance:

“Blackhawks win with wrong goalie”

Maybe its just me, but his titles always crack me up.

I decided it was in the best interest of myself to keep DannyPress.org running, even if it is on a semi-basis. I am going to use it as a “mini-blog” where I will post pictures that amuse me, quotes, and other fun stuff.

I am trying to start a hockey blog over at FoxSports, but for some reason I keep getting errors, which is strange because the last one I had over there worked fine. When the problem is resolved I’ll post a link to the blog.

Who knew the Leafs could play? October 10, 2008

Kudos to the Toronto Maple Leafs for stickin’ it to the man with a great effort last night. They don’t have a lot of flash beyond Nik Antropov, Jason Blake, and Niklas Hagman (his line with the kids had a great game), but they were impressive on the forecheck, and played the dump and chase game as well as any other team could.

This was the best they have been post-lockout, and they seemed extremely fast. Perhaps this is the type of team the Leafs need to succeed (Could be a long shot, but we all remember what roster the Sabres got to the finals with a few years back don’t we?).

As for the Red Wings, I think they are still hung over.
